The size of a canvas determines its relationship with the entire interior. Assess it on the wall alongside the furniture, lighting and viewing distance. This grounds the choice in the project rather than just the proportions of the file.
Start with the Available Space
Measure the area where the canvas will hang. Mark doors, windows, switches, lights and fixed furniture. When a canvas hangs above a sofa, bed or reception desk, consider the two as a single composition.
Draw several formats on the wall elevation. You can use a paper template or tape on the wall and check the scale from the entrance and seating positions. This quickly shows whether the accent is strong enough and whether it has enough space around it.
Aspect Ratio Before Size
Square, portrait, landscape and panoramic formats affect the image differently. Check that cropping preserves important faces, objects and lines. Original artwork may need its composition adapted to the format.
Send the largest original file you have. Increasing the resolution number alone does not add detail. The team reviews the image against the requested dimensions before production.
How the Material Limits the Format
| Canvas | Maximum Short Side | Surface |
|---|---|---|
| Polyester, 270 g/m² | 142 cm | Light gloss |
| 75% polyester / 25% cotton, 300 g/m² | 142 cm | Matte |
| 100% cotton, 370 g/m² | 170 cm | Matte |
These are short-side limits, not a promise of an arbitrarily large finished canvas. For an elongated format, we confirm the stretcher construction and transport options. Include information about access to the room.
One Canvas or Several Panels
A single canvas keeps the image as a whole. A composition of two to five parts introduces rhythm and may suit a wide wall better. The choice depends on the image itself and the furniture arrangement.
With panels, the overall width includes the gaps. For example, three 40 cm panels with two 5 cm gaps occupy 130 cm. This is a planning example; the specific spacing is decided with the composition. Record it in the installation brief.
The Stretcher Is Visible Too
VividWalls offers five profiles: No. 1 is 20 mm deep and 37 mm wide, No. 2 is 20×45 mm, No. 2A is 27×45 mm, No. 3A Statement is 40×45 mm and No. 3D Sculpt is 46×28 mm. A deeper profile changes the visible edge and the shadow on the wall.
For larger sizes, the profile is also chosen for its construction. Agree the necessary supports with production. A decorative outer frame is a separate option and contributes to the overall dimensions.
Visualise Before the Quotation
In the Vivid Canvas Visualizer, you can compare aspect ratios, dimensions and stretcher profiles in an interior setting. Use it for composition. Assess colour, texture and the final print with a physical sample.
For multiple sites, prepare a table or list with an identifier, dimensions, material, profile, quantity and file for each position. Indicate which canvases should read as a single series and where formats differ.
